Introduction

Overview

This guide demonstrates how to replace a fan in an Open Compute V2 server system.

  1. Power off both server systems in the Open Compute V2 chassis.
    • Power off both server systems in the Open Compute V2 chassis.

    • Remote Power Down: Login to each server to power it off.

    • shutdown -h now;exit

    • Hardware Power Down: Press and hold the power switch for at least three seconds, as annotated.

  2. Disconnect all of the peripheral cables from the server sleds.
    • Disconnect all of the peripheral cables from the server sleds.

    • Engage the locking mechanism on the right side of the Open Compute V2 chassis.

    • Pull the chassis away from the rack.

    • Place the chassis on a work surface.

  3. Identify the Open Compute V2 fan that needs to be replaced.
    • Identify the Open Compute V2 fan that needs to be replaced.

    • From left to right, fans are oriented in the Open Compute V2 chassis as follows:

    • Node 0, Sys Fan 0

    • Node 0, Sys Fan 1

    • Node 1, Sys Fan 0

    • Node 1, Sys Fan 1

  4. Disconnect the fan power cable. Disconnect the fan power cable.
    • Disconnect the fan power cable.

  5. Remove fan from the server chassis. Remove fan from the server chassis.
    • Remove fan from the server chassis.

  6. Place new fan in the chassis. Ensure the rubber grommets sit correctly  in chassis, as shown. Ensure the rubber grommets sit correctly  in chassis, as shown.
    • Place new fan in the chassis.

    • Ensure the rubber grommets sit correctly in chassis, as shown.

    • Slide the chassis into the rack.

  7. Power on the server by pressing the power button.
    • Power on the server by pressing the power button.
